UPDATE January 27,2017
The event is NOT a race. All driving will be at or below the posted speed limits. Although the event is hosted by the San Antonio Jaguar Club, any vehicle can participate, but Corvettes make a statement and are also fun in the hill country. The Rallye will start from Rudy’s Country Store & BBQ at IH-10 West & Boerne Stage Road in Leon Springs and will end at Luckenbach. Cost is $20. per vehicle. Registration is from 11AM to Noon on Saturday, with a mandatory drivers meeting at 12:15 PM. The first car will be released at 12:31PM, with the remainder of cars released at one minute intervals. The event will cover about 100 miles through the hill country and take approximately 3 hours driving time. There will be at least one stop at a location with a rest room facility.
This is a Time/Speed/Distance (TSD) rallye with specific instructions handed out at each of the rallye stages (generally 3 or 4 stages) that provide specific speed, distance and route instructions. At the end of each stage, teams will be provided their time that it took to complete that stage. Plus or minus time deviations, in seconds, from the ideal time will be counted against the team for each segment (separate for each segment), with the teams completing the event with the least total deviation receiving trophies for both driver & navigator for 1st through 3rd places, plus a “Stray Cat” award for the team with the largest deviation.
Recommended items for the rallye:
- A full tank of gas
- 2 pencils (with erasers)
- Large rubber band (to hold bottom of papers on clip board)
- Calculator (recommend a separate calculator from your cell phone if you are using your cell phone for a stopwatch)
- Stop watch capable of recording minutes/seconds up to 1 hour (you can use your cell phone’s stop watch function if you have one) (Note: the timer function on the Corvette’s DIC does not work well for this, because it stops whenever you turn the car off).
- Car cell phone charger (if you are using your cell phone for the rallye timer)
- Patience, a sense of humor and a great navigator/driver team combination.
For those TCA members that have an interest, I will be glad to meet with them at Rudy’s at 11:30AM (after they register) to offer suggestions and answer questions about running the event. Please contact me if there are any questions. I hope to see a great Corvette turnout at this drive through the hill country event.
